Where have I been?

oh where oh where have I been? I like playing the catch up game. It's been 3 months since I've written. But now I try to write about what's been goin on in the past 3 months and it's hard because I can't remember what I even had for breakfast...Oh that's right, nothing. We are out of food...Anyways, I'll try to make this entertaining to look back on in the next 3 months...Hmm...I had more visitors: Meri and Dani.

Meri and I had a blast reminiscing over cocktails as well as eating ridiculously good food. We experienced Uchi together. You can see in our photo how elated we were after our meal.

Oh Uchi....the best sushi place in the world. An orgasmical wonderland of delicious and flavorful food...I have yet to go back there. That weekend was great, but Uchi made it awesome, oh and the dude that looked like Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords....right Murray?

Dani's visit was short and more about the booze--brew-bq and bar hopping galore, sipping absinthe at Peche till 2 am. Good times....a couple of Dani and Dina nights we will never forget. I'll post a pic when I get one.

I finally got to see what South by Southwest was all about---the film festival side of it and the music scene were awesome... bands flooded Austin with great tunes.I saw M.Ward for free at Auditorium Shores...

I actually went by myself to that show and met a couple of NY dudes while eating a corn dog. They too shared an interest in corn dogs and good music.. I got to see some incredible movies before the rest of the public: Moon, Sin Nombre (my fav), Drag me to hell, Black, and Day time Drinking...and Troll 2 (still the worst movie ever)...I got to meet the actors from Beerfest!!, and we were in the movie theaters with famous directors like Sam Raime...(didn't meet him though).

Also, finally made it to Lake Travis--even though it was a nude beach it was still pretty. Next time we are not going to Hippie Hollow...that was just a one time deal. And no, I wasn't nekkid like the rest of the ugly old dudes and larger people.
Other than that, I've been busy w/work and our little side project-mini-zine type deal. Finally sold our first Ad. Exciting stuff...and maybe eventually the money will start to roll in so I can quit my day job and travel...I can only dream of that happening! :)

Heidi's Comin!

It's 4 o'clock on a Friday and I've been itching to leave. It's been a long week. Everyday felt like a Friday, and finally it's here! This weekend should be fun. And Not just because it's Vday weekend. Heidi is coming to town! And whenever we go out together it's usually a shit-show.

I'm stockin up the liquor cabinets in preparation for her arrival . Yup ,she gets the red carpet treatment since she's the first one of my girl friends to visit. Watch out Austin, Baltimore's classiest drunks are goin out...

Towel Photo

I took this photo at Brian's house in Baltimore over 2 years ago. At the time I remember liking the composition because of the movement in the folds of the towel and on the sheets. I also loved the texture of the towel against the soft green sheets. But wow, looking at it now, it is highly amusing to me. This photo was actually foreshadowing my living situation with Brian. Brian loves to throw his towel on the bed- not just any towel- - a wet towel .He knows it is one of my pet peeves- especially when I come home to it after a long day of work. He's gotten better at not doing it as much, but now I can see it was a habit of his for well over 2 years.

Portraits

I was going through some of my old digital photography assignments and i thought I'd put them on here -

I think his name was Rich. I asked if I could take his picture. He was waiting for someone in Federal Hill

-This is a photograph I took of Laura O...Played around with it in Photoshop a bit.

New Year's Resolutions

As I scoured for a treadmill at the gym on Monday I realized that everyone's New Year's Resolution was to get in shape, and to stay in shape. I too want to get in shape, since I've noticed my doughyness. It used to be so easy to see my abs- and now they are under a layer of flab, and then some. My goal is to keep up with the running and weight lifting. Along with that, a healthier lifestyle- maybe stay off the booze...at least during the work week.

My next resolution is to keep up with my painting. I was recently commissioned to do another painting for someone, and I'm mad I haven't made enough time for it.

Thirdly, I need to save some money! I want to travel around the world with Brian still, and at the rate we're going it could take 3 to 4 years.

My final resolution is to have these goals accomplished by next year, so maybe I won't have any New Year's resolutions :) Just to keep on keepin' on--,stayin' happy, and healthy.

Do you ever wonder what you are going to be like in five years? Normally, I don't. But it sort of just dawned on me tonight. It's a scary thought. I think mainly because I look back five years ago and I'm definitely not the same person I was then. I was young, stupid and naive, having my fair share of college fun. And now, I'm a little more serious, more driven, smarter about the world and people.

I sort of miss the feeling of not having a care in the world though. Being a little less serious. Not worrying about how much money I have to save just in case our whole company goes under.

I remember years ago, when my dad would take me on his rounds in the hospital- and I wanted to be a doctor, just like him. Back then you could be anyone you wanted to be. Now adays there are always road blocks in the way- Can't do that because it won't make money, or the whole self doubt thing.

Times are tough for everyone right now and fact is, it's hard to be hopeful at times. But try to never lose sight of your goals and what makes you happy. Years from now, you dont want to think about what you could have done. Just go out and do it.

So what is five years going to do to you?

BORED

tick tock...tick tock....3 hours left....I have nothing to do at work right now, so I'm just listening to Pandora and googling. I've taken way too many online tutorials so I'm even bored with that. It's prob better that I don't have work to do right now because my brain is rather slow from last night's alcohol consumption at the concert. I saw Maceo Parker at Antone's- It was packed with Maceo fans so it was def a good time. Maceo Parker is 2% Jazz, 98% funk, a super talented vocalist and instrumentalist- played with a number of bands and artists including Dave, Red Hot Chili peppers, Ray Charles, Ani Difranco...
Good Times..however I'm going to be smelling like a brewery at the gym today. Oh well...I'm happy it's almost the weekend ..Tomorrow I'll be dressed as a mouse during the office day and a skanky pirate at night. I just got my costume in the mail, and well it's so scandalous I have to wear shorts underneath my dress so I don't accidentally flash my goods.
Happy Halloween Weekend. Go UT! Go Ravens!

life's been good

ive been pretty consistent about being inconsistent with blogging. 3 months have gone by since my last post and a lot has happened. I have a new graphic design job, I've made new friends, I've joined a book club (social drinking club), I bought a Wii, I've celebrated a birthday in Austin, I bought a futon, I painted about 4 paintings, I've met Ravens fans from Baltimore (with whom I hang out with on game days), I've attended more concerts, including ACL after shows at the Legion Mansion...I've had visitors- Brian's dad, his brothers, and our friend Donnie. I now have Texas plates and a Texas driver's license. Also, I discovered more to our hike and bike trail, I have new happy hour spots (including the Alligator grill which was filmed in Office Space)...and I found more cool shops.

Finally, I realize I've been living here over 6 months now! Time flies....and pretty soon I'll be back in Bmore for Christmas.
